Many of the mountain\u2019s hardest lines are here.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"2984\" data-end=\"3217\">\n<p data-start=\"2986\" data-end=\"3217\"><strong data-start=\"2986\" data-end=\"3006\">South-west face:<\/strong> first climbed in <strong data-start=\"3024\" data-end=\"3032\">1968<\/strong> by <strong data-start=\"3036\" data-end=\"3053\">E. Mislovskiy<\/strong> (right of the Puso). The direct \u201cPotbelly\u201d line was climbed in <strong data-start=\"3117\" data-end=\"3125\">1977<\/strong> by <strong data-start=\"3129\" data-end=\"3149\">A. Nepomniashkiy<\/strong>. Later routes were opened by <strong data-start=\"3179\" data-end=\"3192\">K. Valiev<\/strong> and <strong data-start=\"3197\" data-end=\"3214\">V. Solonnikov<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"3218\" data-end=\"3396\">\n<p data-start=\"3220\" data-end=\"3396\">The face above the <strong data-start=\"3239\" data-end=\"3264\">\u201cTramplinniy\u201d Glacier<\/strong> remains unclimbed and is considered virtually impossible due to an extremely dangerous icefall dropping onto the Pamirskoe Plateau.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3 data-start=\"3398\" data-end=\"3453\">The Pamirskoe Plateau (key acclimatization terrain)<\/h3>\n<p data-start=\"3454\" data-end=\"3772\">The normal route crosses the <strong data-start=\"3483\" data-end=\"3504\">Pamirskoe Plateau<\/strong>, one of the world\u2019s highest and largest plateaus: approximately <strong data-start=\"3569\" data-end=\"3582\">3 km wide<\/strong> and <strong data-start=\"3587\" data-end=\"3601\">12 km long<\/strong>, ranging from <strong data-start=\"3616\" data-end=\"3638\">4,700 m to 6,300 m<\/strong>. Around <strong data-start=\"3647\" data-end=\"3658\">6,000 m<\/strong> lies <strong data-start=\"3664\" data-end=\"3698\">Parachutistov (\u201cParachutists\u201d)<\/strong>, named after a tragic Soviet military parachuting expedition in <strong data-start=\"3763\" data-end=\"3771\">1967<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<hr data-start=\"3774\" data-end=\"3777\" \/>\n<h2 data-start=\"3779\" data-end=\"3830\">The Classic Route: Barodkin Ridge (North) \u2014 5A<\/h2>\n<p data-start=\"3831\" data-end=\"4138\">The normal route begins from the <strong data-start=\"3864\" data-end=\"3886\">Walter(a) Glacier<\/strong> and leads onto the <strong data-start=\"3906\" data-end=\"3920\">north face<\/strong>. It was opened in <strong data-start=\"3939\" data-end=\"3947\">1968<\/strong> by <strong data-start=\"3951\" data-end=\"3966\">J. Barodkin<\/strong>, following the ridge that bears his name. Korzhenevskiy<\/strong>, who wished to name it after his wife <strong data-start=\"5740\" data-end=\"5751\">Evgenia<\/strong>. First ascent: <strong data-start=\"5767\" data-end=\"5775\">1953<\/strong>, <strong data-start=\"5777\" data-end=\"5790\">A. Agarov<\/strong>, via the northern side. The mountain has multiple complicated lines on its west face.<\/p>\n<h3 data-start=\"5878\" data-end=\"5952\">The Southern Ridge Route (5A) \u2014 classic and relatively straightforward<\/h3>\n<p data-start=\"5953\" data-end=\"6077\">Opened by <strong data-start=\"5963\" data-end=\"5977\">V. Tsetkin<\/strong> in <strong data-start=\"5981\" data-end=\"5989\">1966<\/strong>, the southern ridge line is often climbed in <strong data-start=\"6035\" data-end=\"6047\">3\u20134 days<\/strong>
